As part of a contract signed with the European Commission in the framework of the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC), ENSTTI initiated in November 2016 a collaboration with South Africa’s National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) with the aim of developing a training center to provide training in radiation protection and nuclear safety and security in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The training cycle began with a specially designed first session, given in English, consisting of two specialized courses for professionals in the African nuclear sector.
The first course, entitled “National System for Emergency Preparedness and Response”, took place on November 21-25 and was attended by 18 trainees. The second, entitled “Regulation of Radiation Protection in Mining and Milling” was held on November 28-December 02 and attended by 16 trainees.
This first training cycle will be completed by a second session in 2017, which will focus on the application of IAEA recommendations on the transportation of radioactive materials and radiation protection rules in medical applications.
