As part of the fourth phase of the European Commission’s INSC Training & Tutoring project for promoting nuclear safety in countries outside the European Union, the European Nuclear Safety Training and Tutoring Institute (Enstti) organized two complementary training courses concerning regulatory control of both occupational and public exposure from nuclear installations and facilities. These courses are aimed at professionals involved in nuclear safety and radiation protection activities, and employed by nuclear regulators or technical safety organization.
The first course, deals with inspection of Environmental and Occupational Radiation Protection and will take place in Pretoria on 17-21 July 2017, and will introduce radiation protection requirements related to both occupational and public exposure and the regulatory process put in place to ensure compliance with the requirements. The second course focuses on Surveillance of Environmental Radioactivity and will follow on 24-28 July 2017. It presents environmental surveillance of radioactivity and its role in providing assurance of the effective control of releases from regulated facilities or quantifying the levels of environmental contamination in the event of accidents releases. Practical illustration of environmental migration mechanisms, design of monitoring programs and associated metrology and laboratory resources needed to implement the programs are included.
