The training is intended for professionals involved in activities related to the regulatory control or evaluation of the safety of mining and processing facilities for uranium or other ores or minerals containing elevated levels of naturally occurring radionuclides, employed by nuclear regulatory or nuclear safety technical expertise organisations. Firstly, it is intended to facilitate an understanding of the nature of radiation hazards associated with mining and minerals processing and the philosophies and principles of safety and protection. The training covers regulatory processes and deals with protection of workers and the public, both operationally and in the long term management of the radioactive waste generated by the mining and processing operations. Participants will require a basic knowledge in the area of radiation science and mining and minerals processing technologies. Persons with knowledge of nuclear law will also benefit from the course.
